CLEVELAND, Ohio — The bullpen struggles continued for the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night as the Tribe surrendered an early 2-0 lead to fall to the reigning World Series champion Houston Astros in a rout, 8-2.

Game Recap

The Tribe opened up the scoring Thursday night with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Michael Brantley, which brought Roberto Perez and Francisco Lindor home to give Cleveland an early 2-0 lead.

The lead wouldn’t last long for the Tribe as Alex Bregman gave the Astros a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth with a three-run bomb.

Houston busted the game open in the top of the sixth as an RBI single by Max Stassi, a three-run home run by Jake Marisnick and an RBI double by Alex Bregman gave the Astros an 8-2 victory.

Pitching Struggles In Loss

It was a somewhat rough night for Tribe starter Mike Clevinger as he got pulled after just 5 1/3 innings.

Clevinger gave up a three-run homer in the third inning and then after putting two men on base with just one out in the top of the fifth, manager Terry Francona made the move to bring in Tyler Olsen, who didn’t register a single out before being pulled as he gave up an RBI single to Max Stassi, the only batter he would face.

Clev spoke about what went wrong for him in his postgame press conference.

Neil Ramirez came in for Olsen and quickly gave up a three-run 421-foot moonshot to center field to Jake Marisnick.

Tito addressed the bullpen struggles after the game.

Brantley Continues Incredible 2018 Campaign

Despite the loss, Michael Brantley added another pair of RBIs to his stellar 2018 season.

Brantley has been on fire this season as he’s hitting .335, has seven home runs, 32 RBIs and 52 hits in just 38 games so far this season.

The Indians will continue their weekend series with the Astros on Friday night at 7:10pm ET as Indians two-time Cy Young award winner Corey Kluber will face off against Houston ace Dallas Keuchel in a pitching battle.
